Welcome to the 8th year of the Thornhill Masters Aquatic Club.
When the Thornhill Masters Aquatic Club started in September 2004, it was a small club swimming out of 3 lanes of the Thornlea pool, hoping to survive. With 2 workouts a week, the club set out to get members and make it through the first year. Since that time, the club has not only survived, but has exceeded all expectations. The growth of the club has been steady and continuous, adding 10% to 15% to its membership each year, adding pool space and time, and of course each and every year, performance in the pool has improved.
For the 2010/11 swim season, after a great deal of negotiation, the club gained access to the North Thornhill Community Center, giving the club not only its 2nd pool, but also expanded the geographical reach of the club. The result being the largest increase in membership in the history of the club, and also resulted in a 6th place finish at the 2011 Ontario Masters Swimming Championships, the clubs best ever finish.
The upcoming swim season is shaping up to be one of transition for the Thornhill Masters Aquatic Club. For the first time ever the club will have the exact same schedule as last year, and have a strong membership base of returning swimmers. This will allow the club to progress to the next level. With the Ontario Masters Swimming Championships being held locally at the Etobicoke Olympium, THOR should have a large presence at the meet and while working towards improving from our 6th place finish of last year. In addition, this season for the first time THOR is hosting its very own swim meet, to be held at the North Thornhill Community Center on May 6, 2012. IT will be the first time that THOR has had the opportunity to race in its own pool. It is anticipated that this meet will become an annual event.
