Winter
During the winter months (October to the end of April) The Thornhill Triathlon Club runs a program consisting of indoor pool swims, spinning sessions, and outdoor run sessions, (following Sunday morning swim workouts). The goal of this program is to allow triathletes to maintain and improve their fitness and skill level leading up to the summer season.
The club trains alongside the Thornhill Masters Aquatic Club, and members have access to area swim meets if they want to participate.
Spring training camp
We will host a one day spring training camp in late spring, (date TBD). This will be a day outside of the normal training comfort zone to not only challenge participants, but to get a head-start on perfecting skills prior to the competitive season. Participants will spend the day in the company of friends, training hard in all three sport disciplines: swimming, biking, and running. Time will be spent going over aspects that wouldn't normally be covered during a normal training session, such as transitions, what to expect on race day, and what do I do if... Taking place in a new location each year, participants should be prepared for a full day of training, coaching, and motivation. There will be no shortage of encouragement on this group triathlon day, it will be a great way to celebrate together what is truly an individual sport. More information to be provided.
Summer
The 2012 summer session of the Thornhill Triathlon Club will consist of the following weekly workouts:
Tuesday evening track running session
This session takes place at the Thornlea Secondary School track, on Bayview Ave. Each workout has a technique and drill component followed by an interval or hill component. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals to work on their technique, speed and strength, and is a great addition to any runners workout.
Wednesday Swim Session
Workout held at North Thornhill Community Center every Wednesday from 9:00 to 10:30 PM.
Saturday morning swim, bike, and run session.
This training session starts at Lake Wilcox, just off of Bayview Ave. in Richmond Hill.
Small groups will be made based on the speed and distance of individuals. As a group we swim for approximately 45 minutes. After swimming we re-group to prepare for the bike ride.
The bike session begins as one large group and will divide into smaller packs according to speed, distance and the training goals of the athletes. The ride distances increase throughout the season in order to build endurance and strength. Some sessions will be dedicated to specific skill improvement including hill climbing, speed intervals, and group riding technique.
Following the bike ride, small groups form to complete a brick run of 3-5km.
