On the weeekend of March 20 – 22, 2009 12 members of the Thornhill Masters Aquatic Club Travelled to Ottawa to attend the 2009 Ontario Masters Swimming Championships. In only its 5th year of operation, The Thornhill Masters placed 10th over all out of 62 teams in attendance. This was the best performance ever by the team who placed 20th last year.
The top performer in terms of medal performance was Valerie Westernacher in the womens 60 – 64 age catagory who collected 4 medals. amazingly, Valerie only learned to swim just over 1 year ago! Honourable mention goes to Issac Capua, Eileen Westernacher, and Kim Lumsden who also collected top 3 finishes in their respective age groups. (See placings below)
This meet solidifies The Thornhill Masters Aquatic Club as one of the top clubs in Ontario. Considering the young age of the club this is quite an amazing fete as most of the clubs that the Masters competed against are much older, and have swimmers who have been competing for many years. Most of the swimmers on the Thornhill Masters have only started swimming in the past 2 years. Congtratulations to all swimmers to attended the meet.
Coming up next is the 2009 CANADIAN MASTERS SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIP to be held in Etobicoke on May 15 to 18.
