On the weekend of May15 to 18 when most people were enjoying the May long weekend, 20 members of the Thornhill Masters Aquatic Club attended the Canadian Masters Swimming Championships in Etobicoke. In what has been a tremendous year for the Thornhill Masters, the club placed 20th out of 110 teams in attendance in what is the largest Masters Swim meet in Canada, with close to 1,000 Masters Athletes in attendance. The top placing in the meet goes to Eileen Westernacher who placed 2nd in the 50 Breast Stroke. Other top finishers include Mike Paddag 3rd in the men’s 200 Breast Stroke, Ramiz Nasser 3rd in the 100 Freestyle 5th in the 50 Fly Valarie Westernacher 4th in the 400 Free and 5th in the 200 free 5th in the 100 Freestyle Richard Fernandez 4th in the 200 IM, and 5th in the 50 Backstroke Kim Lumsdon 5th in the1500 free. This past year has been the most successful in the 5 year history of the Thornhill Masters Aquatic Club, and has transformed the club into one of the top teams not only in Ontario, but in all of Canada. As it moves forward, the club is looking forward to continued growth and improvement in the Swimming world, and is also looking to attract many triathletes as well. With swimmers and Triathletes ranging in age from 19 to 61, there is a program to suite all ages. “As long as a swimmer can complete 1 length of the pool and has the will to improve they are welcome” As the Club looks to wrapping up what has been a great season, next up is a hectic summer season with members training hard and entering Triathlons and other events.
